Eat This, Not That: Taboos and Pregnancy



Food taboos are as worldwide as food. It stands to reason that they've helped us through the past few years in our attempts to prevent killing ourselves. As it happens, a few of the very fascinating food taboos dovetail with another fundamental human want-reproduction.



All around the globe, you will find a variety of rules about what can't and pregnant girl can eat. (As if it were not hard enough being pregnant without everyone giving their good-meant advice.) "Declaring specific foods taboo since they're considered to produce a man ill is in addition the foundation for the various food taboos changing pregnant women," according to ethnobiologist Victor Benno Meyer-Rochow of Finland, who examines people wisdom.

Today, and a lot are still practiced. They help get an organization feel associated when stuck to, says Meyer Rochow.

There are several other, non-religious taboos also- guinea pigs and horses are kept as pets in America, but great for food in Peru and France. But there is so many more, especially geared toward protecting girls that are pregnant.
